About the Art: Palmer Hayden, Midsummer Night in Harlem (1938). Born in 1890, Hayden received the prestigious Harmon Foundation Prize in 1926 facilitating several years study and training in Paris. He returned to the United States in 1932, finding steady work with the U.S. Treasury Art Project and the Works Progress Administration. Hayden portrayed the African American experience, both rural and urban, painting within that narrative the ups and downs of American life."

Cookin' Soul - The Revolution Is Being Televised (The Gil Scott-Heron Mixtape)

Cookin' Soul brings us this mixtape in honor of the great Chicago-born poet, musician, and author, Gil Scott-Heron who passed this Friday. Gil Scott-Heron paved the way for rap today and was best known for his political spoken word in his song "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised", which was released in the 1970s. The mixtape contains some of his most popular songs and with many artists still sampling him to this day, reminds us even though he's left this world, his powerful movement of poetry mixed with political expression and heavy percussion will live on. Rest in peace brother.
